In Le Torrent, Anne le Ny directs José Garcia and André Dussollier in a police thriller set in the heart of the Vosges mountains. The film will be broadcast this Saturday, October 6, at 10:35 pm on Canal+.
When Alexandre, played by José Garcia, discovers that his wife is cheating on him, an argument breaks out and she accidentally falls to her death. From then on, a spiral of lies begins to form around Alexandre, who prefers to lie to avoid being accused of murder, with the complicity of his eldest daughter.
Without much subtlety, Le Torrent turns out to be a good Sunday night thriller. Effective, it delivers what the viewer is looking for. The suspense is well handled and the script holds together, but there's something lacking to make it totally convincing. The actors' score and the moral dilemma of José Garcia and Capucine Valmary, who plays his daughter, are well conveyed on screen. It's the kind of film that will appeal to the general public, but perhaps not to aficionados of the genre, who won't see much originality in it.
