Lisa Azuelos(Lol, Mon bébé, I love America) is back with La Chambre des Merveilles. The film is due in cinemas on March 15.
This is not the first time Julien Sandrel 's novel has been adapted. A play has been running at the Théâtre des Variétés since January 13. In the film, Alexandra Lamy plays a mother who makes every dream come true for her 12-year-old son Louis, who has fallen into a coma after an accident. Muriel Robin plays his mother. A beautiful drama for the whole family to enjoy.
Our verdict
In spite of its plot, La Chambre des Merveilles has a touching, heartfelt quality. The mother's struggle to save her son from the coma into which he has fallen is touching. All the more so as the journey she embarks upon makes no sense whatsoever. And if it doesn't actually save the young boy, it at least allows his mother to get to know him better and discover the interests they don't talk about.
Thelma then sets herself the crazy challenge of making young Louis'Bucket List. It's an opportunity for filmmaker Liza Azuelos to set up her camera just about anywhere in the world, and of course, only in paradisiacal locations. It's a feast for the eyes, even if the staging is a little uninspired. On the other hand, Thelma's achievements are a little facile. Most of her son's "things to do before the end of the world" are deemed impossible, but she manages to do them in a matter of minutes, and it's sometimes hard to believe the script's nudges.
Nevertheless, the film allows the viewer to travel, and above all, the self-sacrifice of this mother commands respect and should appeal to those who can identify with the character.
It's the crazy gamble of a mother willing to do anything to help her son wake up from his coma. After 12-year-old Louis has an accident, Thelma decides to carry out for him the "10 things to do before the end of the world" that he had written in his diary. By listening to these adventures, Louis will see how beautiful life is, and that he must come back! By fulfilling a teenager's dreams at the age of forty, Thelma is about to embark on an incredible journey that will take her much further than she ever imagined...
