Having made a name for herself as a filmmaker with her adaptation of the Prix Goncourt winner Chanson Douce, Lucie Borteleau is back with A mon seul désir, a unique and extremely daring film in which the director pulls it off wonderfully. Available in cinemas from April 5.
This feature-length film invites us to do what few people dare: enter a strip club. "This film tells the story of someone who dared," explains the synopsis ofA mon seul désir. That someone is Aurore, played by Louise Chevillotte(Le Monde après Nous, L'Evénement). She enters the club somewhat by chance, but is captivated by the atmosphere, and her only wish is to join the team at this small strip club, where Mia (played by Zita Hanrot) takes her under her wing.
From then on, the film goes through several phases. Initially a story of initiation, it depicts the young woman's discovery of this world, and her immediate taste for it. The scenes are sometimes crude, and nothing is left to interpretation. But rest assured, at no point does the film fall into the gravelly or vulgar. Quite the contrary, in fact. Unlike La Maison, which dealt with a somewhat similar subject (a writer working as a prostitute in a brothel), A mon seul désir avoids all the clichés that accompany such a theme.
On the contrary, Lucie Borteleau films these women with immense tenderness, infinite gentleness and great respect. She magnifies her actresses, Zita Hanrot and Louise Chevillotte in particular, but also all the others. All these women reclaiming their bodies are sublime and, like the film, graceful in the extreme. Subsequently, A mon seul désir becomes a love story, even more tender and pretty, making this feature film a real treat.
It's rare to see a film that combines sultriness and prettiness, humor and emotion, beauty and nudity, without ever lapsing into vulgarity.
