After two seasons in which we always see the same plots, the same fights and the same secondary characters, the season 3 of The Mandalorian really needed some fresh air. Is it finally the case with the episode 3, released this Wednesday, March 15 on Disney+? We explain you everything.
After bathing in the Magic Waters in the previous episode, Din Djarin can finally be forgiven. It's time for him to join his people, with Bo Katan, the occasion of a great space battle, as we haven't seen for a long time in The Mandalorian. However, the series then goes in a completely different direction, far from our hero. We find two very secondary characters, met in the previous seasons: Doctor Pershing and Elia Kane. Both are former collaborators of Moff Gideon, enrolled in a de-indoctrination program for former members of the Empire, now working for the New Republic.
This is an opportunity to tackle a theme never seen in The Mandalorian: the politics of this universe. This was one of the most important aspects of the Star Wars saga. This allows a 180° turn in the series, and we hope that the sequel will follow this red thread. We discover a colorful planet, which lets us finally understand that this huge galaxy is inhabited, unlike most of the planets seen so far. This new plot is much more interesting. These former collaborators of the Empire are fascinating and show that the methods of the New Republic are not necessarily better. This brings nuance to a universe that is sometimes a bit too binary. The everyday life of the New Republic's little hands reminds us of cult works, such as 1984 or Brazil, and even if it is not as qualitative or subtle as the latter two, we can nevertheless appreciate this more than notable turnaround.
This could be a sign of renewal in the series, which frankly needs it, even if we still don't know the relationship between this story and the Mandalorian one. By adopting the codes of the spy movie, this season 3 is finally interesting! We hope it will last.
See you next week for episode 4!
