After a first episode that was soft and rather disappointing, we get back to the heart of The Mandalorian season 3 with this second episode, available since March 8th on Disney+.
The first two seasons had accustomed us to many detours in its story and a directional line constantly abused. We can't say that's the case here. Din Djarin 's main goal in this season 3, to return to Mandalore to immerse himself in the magical waters that will allow him to be forgiven, is already achieved in episode 2. We prefer when the story goes to the essence.
It is the occasion to show the bestiary that now occupies the planet. It goes from funny to terrifying, and in any case, it is frankly hostile. This is the opportunity for our hero to take out his gun and his black saber to fight with monsters with a design similar to the wookies. In doing so, we realize that Din Djarin is no longer the badass and unbeatable mandalorian of the beginning of the series. Often overwhelmed, he now seeks the help of Baby Yoda to get by. Grogu is not much of a baby anymore, except for the chirping. Grogu has mastered the Force and does not hesitate to use it. It's interesting to see the roles reversed.
Despite its short 40 minutes, this episode 2 still seems quite long, and if these last shots augur a tantalizing turn, we still hope that the story will get a little boost.
See you next Wednesday for episode 3!
