This Wednesday, May 24 at 3:00 pm, Chambre 999 by director Lubna Playoust is presented in the Agnès Varda Room. This screening is followed by a discussion with the filmmakers featured in the film.

This Wednesday, Lubna Playoust's film, Chambre 999, will be screened at 3pm in the Agnès Varda Room. Bringing together the testimonies of several contemporary filmmakers, this work promises a poignant look at the world of contemporary cinema. A discussion with the filmmakers featured in the film will be held after the screening, offering a rare and valuable opportunity for debate.

In 1982, Wim Wenders, with his film Chambre 666, asked a crucial question: "Is cinema a language that is being lost, an art that is going to die? Forty years later, Playoust takes up this question through a series of interviews with thirty contemporary filmmakers, including Wenders himself, James Gray, Rebecca Zlotowski, Claire Denis, Olivier Assayas, Nadav Lapid, Asghar Farhadi and Alice Rohrwacher.

In a context marked by the COVID-19, the ecological crisis and technological revolutions, the question of the death of cinema seems to reappear in a cyclical and constant way. However, Room 999 does not pretend to offer a definitive answer. Instead, the film attempts to present a state of affairs through the diverse perspectives of the filmmakers.

"Wim Wenders' film and Chambre 999 are not only about cinema but about the world we live in," says Lubna Playoust. This meeting, moderated by Eric Kohn of IndieWire, will take place at 4:45 pm in the press conference room on the 3rd floor of the Palais des Festivals.

In order to continue the debate around these crucial themes that concern the public, the media and the professionals of the ever-changing industry, a discussion will be organized following the screening of Chambre 999. Reservations for this unique event are available on the online ticketing site.
