Kokomo City, a daring erotic documentary by D. Smith, sheds new light on the lives of four black transsexuals. Scheduled for release on November 29, 2023.

D. Smith 's erotic documentary film Kokomo City presents a raw and intimate depiction of the lives of four transgender and black sex workers living in Atlanta and New York. The work, to be released in cinemas on November 29, 2023, showcases powerful, personal stories that highlight the dichotomy between the black community and transgender people.

Kokomo City is the first feature film from two-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and producer D. Smith. Smith made history by becoming the first trans woman to appear on a reality TV show. In making this documentary, Smith gives a voice to Daniella Carter, Koko Da Doll, Liyah Mitchell and Dominique Silver - courageous individuals who speak openly and break taboos around their profession and identity.

Kokomo City has received critical acclaim and won several prestigious awards, including the Sundance Film Festival's NEXT Innovator Award, the NEXT Audience Award, and the Berlinale Audience Award in the Panorama Documentary section. More recently, the film won a double award at the Champs-Élysées Film Festival, an event that celebrates the best of French and American independent cinema.

This year's prize-winner was D. Smith's Kokomo City, which won both the Grand Prix du Jury for Best American Independent Feature and the Prix de la Critique for Best American Independent Feature. These prizes were awarded by a prestigious jury including Bertrand Bonello, Pénélope Bagieu, Irène Drésel, Ellie Foumbi and Rabah Nait Oufella. The Critics' Prize was awarded by Alexis Bernier, Sarah Gandillot, Simon Riaux and Timé Zoppé.

In conclusion, Kokomo City is a groundbreaking work that gives a face and a voice to an often marginalized community. By revealing the intimacy of four black transsexuals, D. Smith contributes to advancing the understanding and acceptance of transgender people within the black community and society at large.
