The Miracle Club tells the story of the women of Ballyfermot, hoping to be chosen to make a pilgrimage to Lourdes, France. Following an evening raffle, Lily, Eileen, Dolly and Chrissie win the prize of their dreams. Traveling together gives them the opportunity to grow closer and rediscover each other, finally settling forty-year-old scores, the year a tragic accident shattered these women's lives.
It's also an opportunity to examine the daily lives of housewives in 1960s England. It's a time when women's mental workloads are heavy, and their husbands don't care, because they don't even notice. Despite a lack of subtlety, and a sometimes expected scenario, The Miracle Club remains a lovely story aimed at an older audience. Audiences will be delighted to see Maggie Smith and Kathy Bates, two actresses who have been acclaimed for decades. And they won't find the running time long, as the film lasts just 1 hour 20 minutes.
