The Cannes Film Festival 2025 has unveiled the official selection for its Un Certain Regard section , and among the works selected is Harry Lighton's debut featurePillion. After making a name for himself with his short film Wren Boys, the British director has signed an eagerly-awaited debut, with Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling in the cast.
As a reminder, the Un Certain Regard selection at the Cannes Film Festival highlights young, international and formally highly creative cinema - often by young directors. Harry Lighton's first film, Pillion, is also in the running for the Caméra d'Or 2025.
"This first English film, Pillion, is almost a comedy. And yet, if I may say so - but that doesn't prevent it - it's a comedy set in the world of English gay bikers," explained Thierry Frémaux, general delegate of the Cannes Film Festival, at the press conference on Thursday April 10.
Pillion will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. The release date in French cinemas is not yet known.
Synopsis: Colin, an unremarkable young man, meets Ray, the charismatic leader of a biker club. He introduces him to his queer community and makes Colin his submissive.
