Egyptian director Morad Mostafa will present his first feature film, Aisha Can't Fly Away, in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Festival 2025. After several internationally acclaimed short films, Morad Mostafa enters the official selection and joins the Un Certain Regard selection, which showcases singular views of the contemporary world. With this first film, the Egyptian is competing for the Caméra d'Or 2025.
"Egyptian filmmaker Morad Mostafa, who passed through the Festival residency, will present his first film Aisha can't fly away. Egypt is a country more and more often represented. They are all children of our beloved Youssef Chahine," declared Thierry Frémaux at the Cannes press conference on Thursday April 10.
Aisha Can't Fly Away will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. The release date in French cinemas is not yet known.
Synopsis: Aisha, a 26-year-old Somali, lives and works in Ain-shams, a district of Cairo with a large community of African migrants. The violent tensions between the Egyptians and the various African groups are of no concern to the authorities, who leave control of the neighborhood in the hands of gangs. One day, one of the gangs offers Aisha a job as a security guard in exchange for services. But the situation quickly degenerates.
