Directed by Charlotte De Turckheim, Qui c'est les plus forts? is a sparkling, emotionally-charged comedy that follows the misadventures of Sam(Alice Pol), an unemployed cheerleader struggling to keep custody of her little sister. Supported by her roommate and best friend Céline(Audrey Lamy), she tries everything to make ends meet, exploring solutions as varied as they are unexpected. From flower arranging to phone sex, the two friends don't hesitate to use their creativity to improve their daily lives. However, the arrival of a couple with a surprising profile will turn their daily lives upside down and push them to consider an unexpected choice to achieve their goal. With a touch of humor and a lot of humanity, Charlotte De Turckheim delivers a social comedy that speaks of family ties and mutual aid.
Qui c'est les plus forts? will be available on Netflix from November 7, 2024.
Synopsis: Sam, unemployed and a cheerleader in her spare time, is fighting to keep custody of her younger sister and make ends meet. With Céline, her roommate and best friend, they come up with every solution to get by - from phone sex to flower arranging - until the day an unexpected couple comes knocking on their door...
Qui c'est les plus forts? is ideal for viewers who enjoy French comedies centered on human relationships, friendship and everyday challenges. Fans of Alice Pol and Audrey Lamy, two actresses renowned for their humor and authenticity, will appreciate this story of resourcefulness and solidarity. The film recalls the spirit of comedies such as Le Grand Partage and Tellement proches, where characters are faced with tricky situations but solve their problems with humor and creativity. Charlotte De Turckheim's writing, which blends humor and emotion, makes this social comedy an endearing, nonjudgmental film about a young woman's efforts to preserve her family. However, those who prefer light comedies with no social background may be less sensitive to this realistic dimension.
Based on the play Sunderland by Clément Koch, Qui c'est les plus forts? has been reinvented under the direction of Charlotte De Turckheim, who wanted to make it a brighter, more accessible comedy. Alice Pol and Audrey Lamy both bring a naturalness and energy to their characters that makes them endearing and funny, bringing out the challenges and absurdities of their situations with well-judged humor. The dynamic between the two actresses, accompanied by comedian Bruno Sanches, reinforces the film's authenticity and warmth.
Qui c'est les plus forts? is a touching, funny comedy about family ties and coping in times of crisis. Between humor and emotion, Charlotte De Turckheim's film will appeal to a wide audience thanks to its endearing characters and its sympathetic look at life's difficulties.
Our verdict on Who's the Strongest?
We're going to make a confession: we really like Charlotte De Turckheim. Because she's got heart, because she films her actresses well, because she always looks at her characters with kindness, because she's funny, because she's whimsical, because...
Qui c'est les plus forts? has once again won us over. Obviously, it's not a masterpiece, but it's a nugget of happiness, a big smile thrown at the crisis, like a weapon, like a flower. Charlotte de Turckheim has the art of placing herself in the midst of current events (the way in which the two young girls want to earn money, which we can't reveal to you!) while dealing with eternal subjects, such as family, trauma, friendship and so on.
There's plenty of emotion and good humor in this bubbly pink film, recalling the strength of Mince alors! which tackled the dictatorship of thinness with candor and humor. We feel right at home with the characters in Qui c'est les plus forts? and even if the jokes don't fly very high (like when the demonstrators throw chickens at the chickens/police officers), we crack up, laugh and have a good laugh. And with the return of summer, lightness has its place in our dark rooms, doesn't it?
