If you're fed up with FIFA and love Olive & Tom, we'd like to take this opportunity to discover Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions, already available on PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. Developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the game takes you on a graphically interesting arcade journey through some of the anime's finest matches.
Intense action and dynamic animation are the order of the day, for moments of soccer in the pure - and hilarious - tradition of anime. It's also an opportunity to reproduce the incredible special techniques of the players, such as the famous Eagle Shot and the Dead Leaf Shot, among others. And the chance to play as all your favorite heroes!
To satisfy all types of players, two "Story" game modes are available: a "4-player" mode, for playing with friends, and an "online" mode. Several collector's editions are also available: Standard, Deluxe, Collector's, Champions and Legends editions... You'll be spoilt for choice with figurines, soccer shirts, trading cards, embroidered badges, steelbooks and more. In short, there's no excuse if you're a soccer fan and you're reluctant to go out in these uncertain health times!
OUR OPINION: cathartic bliss! If you're a soccer fan, you'll be wavering between the desire to discover the umpteenth microimprovement of FIFA or PES, or to deliriously enjoy your Proust's madeleine: Marc Landers' epic tiger shot!
Of course, if you're not familiar with Olive & Tom, you'll have to pass. You'll certainly be exasperated by the dismaying movement of the players, reminiscent of the early days of the Super Nintendo (Super Soccer!). No, the pleasure of Rise of New Champions is definitely not in its realism!
If, on the contrary, you were rocked by the eagle's shot, upset by Julian Ross's wasted genius, or despairing at Bruce Harper's face-stopper, then stop: Captain Tsubasa is the game you've been waiting for!
Captain Tsubasa fully embraces its crazy, fun arcade feel. With its heroic music and transcendent animations, the game is as enjoyable in story mode as it is in multiplayer... and what a multiplayer it is! Call up your childhood friend (the one who tried the Derrick brothers' infernal catapult with you!), and play standing up with the sound turned up. It doesn't take long for the magic to happen, transporting you back to a time when Messi, Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappé wouldn't have been first-teamers in Captain Tsubasa's legendary New Team!
