Chrono Cross: the radical dreamer edition, our review of the long-awaited game on Nintendo Switch

It's one of the games that marked the 2000s: Chrono Cross is back on our consoles, with Chrono Cross: the radical dreamer edition, a high-definition remaster unveiled over 20 years later, to be discovered on Nintendo Switch from April 7, 2022.

This game has marked a whole generation of gamers, and it's making a comeback on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PS4: Chrono Cross: the radical dreamer edition is out this April 7, 2022 in France. This edition allows us to (re)discover the story of Chrono Cross in HD, and to enjoy the game"RADICAL DREAMERS - The Forbidden Treasure -", which inspired this incredible story!

If you're not familiar with Square Enix 's hit PS1 game, here's the synopsis: Serge wakes up one day in a parallel world very similar to his own. A world with a disturbing reality, except for one detail: in this universe, Serge has been dead for 10 years... The young man sets out to understand the tragedy that took place so many years ago, and above all, to find out why he survived in his own world. His investigation leads him to the fine line between universes.

This is an RPG that plays with uchrony and the rules of space and time. The plot unfolds little by little, leaving the player on the edge of his seat, curious to learn more about this seemingly idyllic universe. Chrono Cross lets us recruit no fewer than 40 characters to our team. This remastered version also offers new features, including 3D models converted to HD, improved sound quality, enhanced combat functions, filter options for scenery...

This game is worthy of the greatest science-fiction and fantasy novels: thestory, the stakes and the surprises that enrich our experience make for an exciting adventure. Getting to grips with the game may seem difficult: you're dropped into the story with no explanation, and the first tasks don't make much sense at first. Then, when we gain the ability to navigate between parallel worlds, our epic takes on a whole new dimension.

We appreciate the great freedom this game gives us: the map is large, you can wander around (almost) freely, and above all, your choices have consequences: there are in fact a dozen different endings to unlock, depending on the story you choose to follow.

Combat is turn-based and not particularly difficult. Graphics have been greatly improved since 1999, but remain well below today's standards of beauty, being used to games like Breath of the Wild or Horizon Forbidden West. Nevertheless, it's great to be able to wander around and admire this incredible universe, filled with waterfalls, beaches and jungles.

Please note: there is no quick-save feature in this game, and you have to wait until you reach a save point before you can exit the game without losing your progress. A negative point for those of us who can't immerse ourselves in a game for hours on end. We do, however, love the possibility of discovering the Radical Dreamers video novel - The Forbidden Treasure - which extends our gaming experience.

For many French players, this remastered edition is also an opportunity to discover for the first time the game that has been so successful abroad. Indeed, the first version of the game was never sold in Europe.

With its reasonable price, we recommend you try Chrono Cross: the radical dreamer edition, a game that could well become a classic of the genre.
