Silent Hill 2 Remake finally available on PS5! After a final trailer unveiled on October 7, 2024, Konami is finally giving you your hands on Silent Hill 2, a remake of the game released in 2001, focusing here on the plot of the original, and available on October 8. A game that created a surprise in October 2022, with a first trailer unveiled at the Game Awards.

Synopsis of Silent Hill 2 Remake:

"Investigating a letter from his late wife, James returns to Silent Hill, the place where they have so many memories. What he discovers is a ghost town, haunted by ominous monsters and shrouded in thick fog. Face the monsters, solve puzzles and search for traces of your wife".

The game will be released exclusively on PS5, at least temporarily, as it is also planned for PC via Steam, one year after the console release. As the first trailer, unveiled in 2022, makes clear, the game will run on Unreal Engine 5, with no loading, as the visual quality of the trailer clearly shows.

Our review

This remake succeeds in bringing together both those who have already discovered the first version of the game and those entering the Silent Hill universe for the first time. For long-time fans, there are a number of familiar elements in the game's interface that retain that old-school vibe, as well as cult cinematics that are made all the more compelling by the game's considerable graphical improvements, while adding new elements that deepen the game's story.

This remake is equally faithful to the brilliance with which the Silent Hill games transport us into an eerie atmosphere, keeping us on the edge of our seats even during the game's quietest moments. Whether in terms of aesthetics or sound design, Silent Hill 2 Remake plunges us ever deeper into madness with each passing chapter. At first, we might have been foolhardy enough to rush headlong towards each door to get out of the fog and understand the mystery, sharing James's determination, but we end up dreading every moment when a handle turns, and being relieved when the tracks are closed.

What makes Silent Hill 2 Remake a masterpiece of horror video games is also what characterizes the saga as a whole: the work doesn't rely on jumpscare or disgust to elicit anguish, but looks deeper into psychological levers.

The game also seems to be one step ahead of our emotions. As soon as we think we've acclimatized to a horrific atmosphere, or identified a pattern, the schema is broken, punishing us for relying on what we took for granted. As the story unfolds, the game slowly lifts the veil on certain mysteries, encouraging us to use our powers of deduction. Not everything can be explained, and although the game is designed to be replayed, with many of the endings only available after you've finished it once, some questions will remain unanswered, reinforcing our obsession.

We also appreciate the possibility of adjusting not only the difficulty of combat, but also that of puzzles, allowing us to tailor our experience to the type of gamer we are. Be warned, however, that Silent Hill 2 remake tackles highly sensitive subjects that may shock, especially through the personification of certain traumas. We also salute James's acting and facial expressions, which faithfully convey emotions and unspoken words.
