Now that's a surprise! Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding Director's Cut has been available on PC and Xbox Series since November 7, 2024. This surprise launch, orchestrated by Kojima Productions, allows users of the Microsoft ecosystem to explore this post-apocalyptic universe. This Director's Cut version enriches the initial experience with new features and challenges for players, while consolidating the franchise's reach.
Initially launched exclusively on PS4 in 2019 under the aegis of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Death Stranding has been extended to other platforms over the years, until today reaching the Xbox universe. Kojima Productions, now the exclusive holder of the game's intellectual rights, explains: " Kojima Productions will continue to focus on bringing its award-winning Death Stranding license to more platforms and more audiences." This announcement is accompanied by a message from Hideo Kojima thanking fans: " It is with great pleasure that I finally announce that Death Stranding Director's Cut will be delivered to Xbox gamers [...] so stay tuned ".
This Director's Cut version offers new options for players, with additions such as the "Ruined Factory", a hostile underground environment, and new delivery aids such as catapults and loading ramps. Combat mechanics also evolve, with additional movements and a new Maser Gun, allowing for more varied strategies when dealing with enemies. Players can now test their arsenal at the shooting range or challenge other users to races on the Racetrack.
With this surprise Xbox release, Kojima Productions confirms its intention to make the Death Stranding license accessible to a wider audience. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is expected to be released exclusively on PS5 in 2025, and a movie based on the first opus is also in the works. So get ready!
