Created by the town of Sarcelles over 40 years ago, the Biennale Internationale de la Gravure is a major event for lovers of printmaking and this exceptional artistic technique. From November 25 to December 10, 2023, discover nearly 450 worksby 250 artists from 36 countries, exhibited for the first time in France. Eaux-fortes, burins, aquatints in black and white or in color, so many different styles unveiled free of charge, with a special focus on Mexico, at the heart of the engraving village.
For this 21st edition, theguest of honor is Assadour Bezdikian, a painter-engraver born in Lebanon in 1943, who trained at theEcole des Beaux-arts de Paris in Lucien Coutaud's studio. Since its inception, the Biennial has focused on a particular country or region of the world, in order to convey theuniversality of printmaking, so this year the focus is on Mexico and South America! Oaxaca, the cradle of one of the oldest pre-Hispanic civilizations, is home to a printmaking center comprising dozens of workshops and galleries devoted to the art of printmaking.
The Biennale de Sarcelles invites us on a world tour of printmaking, from Canada, Colombia, Italy, Morocco, Poland, Japan, Lebanon and Armenia, practised universally, but with different techniques. In France, the ancient art of engraving is best known through the work of Gustave Doré. TheJanine Haddad School of Art also provides an opportunity for the general public to discover this art form. Guided tours and workshops to raise awareness and practice printmaking are organized for the general public!
