Learn all about the history of the famous and surprising Mexican wrestling! TheInstitut culturel du Mexique, located in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris, opens its doors to the exhibition "¡LUCHARÁAAN ! A History of Lucha Libre ", which combines sport and entertainment.
For more than 10 weeks, from Friday November 17, 2023 to Thursday January 25, 2024 to be precise, come and learn more about the practice of this type of wrestling and the infatuation aroused by Mexican wrestling, the second most popular sport among Mexicans, just after soccer. It is also recognized as Mexico City's intangible cultural heritage!
Although the rules of lucha libre are similar to those of American wrestling, many mysteries surround Mexican wrestling. It has to be said that each luchador, the one who practices lucha libre, wears a mask, as tradition dictates. And this mask is not chosen at random, since it generally represents the luchador's life.
What else is special about lucha libre? Impressive holds such as the head scissors or the hurricanrana, not to mention the numerous rope supports and somersaults. TheInstitut Culturel du Mexique in Paris is delighted to present you with this free exhibition.
Thanks to a series of objects (photographs, archives, masks, costumes, figurines, etc.) from the Christian Cymet collection and guest artists, the public will be immersed in the incredible and fascinating history of Mexican wrestling.
