After Neige, the Abondance cow in 2022, and Ovalie, the Salers cow who represented the 2023 edition of the most agricultural of Parisian shows, the Salon de l'Agriculture has now chosen themuse cowfor its 2024 edition, which will take place at the Porte de Versailles exhibition center, from February 24 to March 3, 2024.
So, this year, it's a cow with the lovely name ofOreillette who will be the real star of the show. A Normande breed, the new muse is 5 years old and comes from Briouze, a small commune in the Orne department of Normandy. She lives on the GAEC Foucault family farm, which raises a herd of 110 dairy cows and 24 beef cattle. Oreillette is also the mother of three calves within the herd. The farm produces milk, which is then delivered to a dairy for processing into Camembert and Pont Lévêque PDO.
Did you know: how to become a featured cow at the Salon de l'Agriculture?
For each edition of the Show, a breed is given pride of place: in 2024, it's the Normande breed that has been selected by the president of the breed's Organisme de Sélection (OS). What's more, the president directly chooses the cow that will be the muse of the Show: from then on, the breeder will have to devote part of his time to preparing the cow and promoting the Show.
The Normande breed can be recognized by the three colors of its coat: black brindle, fawn blond and pied white, as well as by the glasses around its eyes. The Normande cow is a mixed breed, much appreciated for its milk production (like Oreillette) but also for its meat. It is the third most common dairy cattle breed in France, with more than 6,000 herds grazing all over the country. Join us on February 24, 2024, to discover Oreillette, a Normande cow elected the 2024 muse of the Salon de l'Agriculture!
