The Analog Festival: instant photography and alternative historical techniques

Born in Nantes under the Expolaroid name in 2013, The Analog Festival is now piloted in Paris since its emancipation from the Polaroid firm in 2022, which was also the occasion to bring alternative old techniques into its scope, in addition to instant images.

This 12th opus will be rich and diverse, with representation of the province on the rise, driven by a group show in Périgueux since the selection of Elizabeth Herman's visual for the official illustration.

Her mischievous phrase "Le Périgord, c'est bon pour mon corps" sums up the spirit of this festival, which brings together the young, the not-so-young, beginners and the experienced, in "premier marché" galleries and alternative venues, and which now brews a range of historic alternative techniques in addition to the traditional snapshot.

You'll discover a program ofexhibitions,events, conferences andopen-house workshops that will delight Sunday strollers as much as collectors and representatives of institutions looking for up-and-coming talent to acquire now.

Although traditionally centered on the month of April, this program actually embraces the whole of spring, to enable as many venues as possible to offer their backgrounds, the work of their artists or to welcome new proposals.

The collodion technique will be strongly represented, with 3 exhibitions, 3 conferences, 1 workshop and the presentation of a book, demonstrating its singular character as the most poetic of all photographic techniques.

It honors the know-how, craftsmanship and technique of the camera, which represents both thehistory of photography and the eulogy of time, fighting against the profusion of images whose veracity is increasingly called into question by the interference of computer algorithms.

In addition to its long-standing partners (Sajin Photo agency; graphic designer Collorant Studio; publisher Obcd Visuel; graphic designer bjan; BotNation AI and online media Polaroid Passion), the association behind the festival is delighted to welcome the Nation Photo retail group, the Union des Photographes Professionnels association and Studio Ambrotype & Co as partners in 2024.

Without further ado:

• The festival opens on Thursday, March 14 with an exhibition at Hôtel La Belle Juliette in the ^6th arrondissement of Paris(solo show - polaroid - until June 11).
• On Thursday March 28, Studio Baxton in Brussels, Belgium, will open its exhibition (group show - polaroid - until May 04).
• On Sunday March 31, Emmanuel Perret will offer 5 large-format chamber portrait sessions and 5 Big Shot portrait sessions at Studio Farnault in the^5th arrondissement of Paris (animation - polaroid/instax - one shot).
• On Thursday April 04, Galerie Rastoll will open its exhibition in the^3rd arrondissement of Paris(solo show - pinhole - until April 27).
• On April 04, the Union des Photographes Professionnels will open its exhibition in the ^10th arrondissement of Paris(group show - collodion and polaroid - until April 26).
• On April 04 at 7pm, Mélanie-Jane Frey will give a lecture on collodion at theUPP.
• On April 04, Galerie Art Shelter opens its exhibition in Périgueux(group show - collodion, cyanotype, bromoil, polaroid, anthotype - until May 03).
• On April 04, Galerie K'Haus (Blockhaus) opens its exhibition in Nantes(group show - polaroid - until May 04).
• On Friday April 05, the Centre Paris'Anim Archipélia will open its exhibition in the ^20th arrondissement of Paris(group show - polaroid - until April 30).
• On Friday April 05, the Centre Paris'Anim Maurice Ravel will open its exhibition in the ^12th arrondissement(group show - polaroid - until April 27).
• On April 05, L'Atelier Argentique opens its exhibition in Nantes(group show - polaroid - until May 04).
• On April 06, Librairie Livres, books & compagny will open its exhibition in Montcuq-Quercy-Blanc(solo show - cyanotype - until April 26).
• On Saturday April 06, Clément MARION will give a lecture/debate on his "Les Grands Brûlés" series at the Union des Photographes Professionnels in Paris' ^10th arrondissement (lecture - collodion - one shot at 5pm).
• On April 06 and Sunday April 07, Ava Bob's studio will be open in Meudon(solo show - polaroid, mixed media - event weekend).
• On April 06 and 07, Philipp Chekler's Petit Atelier will be open in Malakoff(solo show - polaroid - event weekend).
• On April 07, Le Rendez-vous du Snapshot will be held at the restaurant Les Saveurs du Sichuan in the ^14th arrondissement of Paris(group show - polaroids, snapshots, vintage prints - one shot).
• On Thursday April 11, Galerie Les Temps Donnés opens its exhibition in the ^20th arrondissement(group show - polaroid, mixed media - until April 28).
• On Saturday April 13, Mélanie-Jane Frey will give 5 demonstration workshops at Studio Ambrotype & Co in the ^20th arrondissement of Paris (5 participants per session on registration - collodion - one shot).
• On Monday April 15, L'Atelier Galerie Obcd Visuel will offer 2 series in Bagneux(solo show - polaroid - until June 15).
• On Saturday April 20, L'Atelier Argentique will give 2 workshops in Nantes (lift technique - polaroid - one shot).
• On Monday April 22, Halle de la Transition opens its exhibition in Toulouse(group show - cyanotype, polaroid - until April 30).
• On Monday April 29, the restaurant La Grenouille Bleue will launch its exhibition in the ^15th arrondissement of Paris(solo show - polaroid - until May 16).
• On Monday April 29, Mélanie-Jane Frey will give an online lecture from Studio Ambrotype & Co (lecture - Experimental Photography - one shot at 7pm).
• On Thursday May 23, Galerie La Lison will open its exhibition in the ^10th arrondissement of Paris(group show - polaroid, mixed media - until June 14) [appel].

• On Monday June 10, Atelier Kiéné will open its exhibition in Bagnolet(solo show - collodion - until June 15).
• On Saturday June 15, the festival's closing party will take place at Atelier Kiéné in Bagnolet (finissage - collodion - one shot).

The festival opens on Thursday, March 14 and closes on Saturday, June 15, 2024, with the highlight remaining the month of April.

It includes 18 exhibitions ; 3 conferences ; 1 free day of discovery of the collodion technique ; 2 open-door artists' workshops ; an exhibition ; an afternoon of practice in a polaroid transformation technique, and finally a day of studio portraiture.

The program is spread over Nantes, Périgueux, Montcuq-en-Quercy-Blanc, Toulouse, Arlempdes, Malakoff, Meudon, Bagnolet, Brussels and Paris, with 69 exhibitors.
