This Sunday, April 6, 2025, the Rassemblement National (National Rally) is organizing a major rally in support of Marine Le Pen at the Place Vauban, behind the Invalides, in Paris (7th arrondissement). The event comes in the wake of Le Pen's conviction for embezzlement of public funds in the European parliamentary assistants affair, which carries with it an immediate five-year ineligibility sentence. To ensure the safety of the gathering, the Prefecture de Police is introducing exceptional traffic restrictions from 10pm on Saturday April 5, affecting several arteries in the 7th arrondissement.
According to the prefectoral decree published on April 4, parking and movement of all vehicles will be prohibited from 10pm on April 5 to 10pm on April 6 in the following streets of the 7th arrondissement:
Priority vehicles (fire, rescue, police, etc.) are not affected by these restrictions.
This RN meeting, in the wake of heavy judicial news for its historic leader, comes against a backdrop of growing political tensions in the run-up to the 2027 presidential election. On the right and left, the main parties are planning events on the same day in Paris and the suburbs: Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Marine Tondelier in Place de la République, the central bloc with Gabriel Attal, François Bayrou and Édouard Philippe in Saint-Denis. A " long-distance match " that each assumes to be a symbolic battle around the notion of therule of law.
Faced with this exceptional concentration of political events, the authorities fear the risk of outbursts. Political opponents could mobilize in the vicinity of the gatherings, fuelling tensions. In this climate of tension, the Prefecture de Police has announced a reinforced security plan to prevent any confrontation and guarantee public safety.
Residents and motorists are strongly advised toavoid the Invalides area, and to use public transport instead. Note that another demonstration by motorcyclists against the EPZ is taking place on the same day. See also the areas to avoid.
