Program :

- Observing sea level rise" centre
Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 2 to 6 pm, Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 11 am to 6 pm

With global warming, melting ice is causing sea levels to rise. But what are the consequences? Find out how scientists are observing these changes from space.

- Awareness of our connection to the ocean"
Saturday, October 5, 2024, 2-6pm, Sunday, October 6, 2024, 11-6pm

With the board game "Mon lopin de mer" (My patch of sea), hosted by CNRS partner Ifremer, you can manage your own individual ocean plots, while facing the global constraints of climate change.

- Studying living things" centre
Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 2 to 6 pm, Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 11 am to 6 pm

Discover the life cycle of the sea urchin in minute detail, from the microscopic observation of its cells to the entire organism. Go behind the scenes of scientific studies and learn all there is to know about the methods used to study living organisms.

- Virtual reality hub "PlanktoQuest"
Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Using virtual reality, observe phytoplankton and zooplankton and discover the essential role they play in the marine ecosystem and for the whole planet.

- Analyzing natural archives to understand the evolution of the ocean"
Saturday, October 5, 2024, 2-6pm, Sunday, October 6, 2024, 11am-6pm

Sediments on the ocean floor are a treasure trove of information for scientists. Use a magnifying glass to observe the subtleties hidden in marine soil samples, and discover how they tell us about past and future climates.

- Studying the impact of human activities on coastal environments"
Saturday, October 5, 2024, 2-6pm, Sunday, October 6, 2024, 11-6pm

As important carbon exchange zones, deltas, estuaries and, more generally, coastal environments are invaluable in terms of the data they can provide on climate change. Scientists will explain in detail the tools they use, the analyses they carry out and how these results provide valuable data.

- Rethinking Plastics" cluster
Saturday, October 5, 2024, 2 to 6 p.m.

Between 9 and 14 million tonnes of plastic are thrown into the oceans every year. Discover the "Plastic at sea" start-up, based at the Banyuls-sur-mer marine station, which offers innovative solutions for testing the toxicity and biodegradability of plastics and other materials in the environment, to help companies reduce their impact on ecosystems and preserve the planet's resources.

- Assessing the effects of environmental change on the ocean" cluster
Saturday, October 5, 2024, 2-6pm

The rise in CO2 in the atmosphere has many consequences, not least for the ocean, which absorbs a large quantity of it, increasing its acidity. Learn more about the significant effects of ocean acidification on currents, biodiversity and the planet's oxygen supply.

- Listen to and analyze the vocalizations of marine animals"
Saturday, October 5, 2024, 2 to 6 pm

Many marine animals communicate by sound: humpback whales, penguins, many birds... With scientists, decipher their meaning and their major social role in the communication of multiple species.

- Understanding the impacts of invasive marine species"
Sunday, October 6, 2024, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Nearly 60 invasive alien species have been detected in France's overseas collectivities, and the Mediterranean Sea is experiencing an increasing number of invasions, starting with the blue crab. Learn more about the dangers posed by invasive species through the example of the blue crab.

- Photo exhibition "Ocean, a dive into scientific research"
Saturday, October 5, 2024, 2 to 6 pm, Sunday, October 6, 2024, 11 am to 6 pm

Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of the ocean with the CNRS photo exhibition "Ocean, a dive into scientific research". Explore the mysteries of the seas through the work of scientists who strive every day to preserve this unique natural heritage. From the Mediterranean Sea to Antarctic ice, from coasts to abysses, set off on a captivating journey to discover the underwater treasures and actions taken by researchers to protect these ecosystems.
