For some years now, cultural and artistic barges have been multiplying on the Seine. After Fluctuart, dedicated to urban arts, and before a new floating barge dedicated this time to contemporary photography, get ready to discover Le Son de la Terre. While the terrace is due to open in May, the entire site will welcome its first visitors in June 2023.
So, what exactly can we expect? Moored at the foot of Notre-Dame Cathedral, in Paris's 5th arrondissement, this new barge is set to put the spotlight on music. But not just any music. Sponsored by renowned musician and singer Thomas Dutronc, Le Son de la Terre aims to put jazz and world music at the forefront.
Described as " a contemporary venue open to the world ", accessible 7 days a week, Le Son de la Terre has a surface area of 300 m² on two levels, and can accommodate 280 people inside, including 220 seated, not forgetting the 60 people seated on the terrace.
What's inside? A stage dedicated to jazz and world music, with renowned artists and up-and-coming talents, as evidenced by the first confirmed names this summer: Hubert Mayo Trio on June 14, Kris Samé on June 17, Duo Landry+ on June 25 and Kicca and Oscar Marchioni on July 23 and 26. You'll also find Pierre Bertrand, Mario Canonge, Thierry Fanfan, Philippe Sellam, Louis Winsberg, Francis Lockwood, Anbessa sextet, David Patrois... In short, a wide range of styles will be featured on the Le Son de la Terre barge: jazz, reggae, swing, klezmer music, Latin rhythms, soul, folk, Cuban salsa, funk...
But that's not all, as the barge will not only delight your eyes and ears with concerts from Wednesday to Sunday, but also your taste buds with the opening of a bistronomic table. On the menu? Modern cuisine by chef Alfred Elanga. To accompany these dishes inspired by the cuisines of the world, head for one of the barge's two festive bars, to sip signature cocktails imagined by Jérôme Penfornis.
Last but not least, Le Son de la Terre unveils an experimental space hosting artists in residence, with workshops, conferences and partnerships with music schools, conservatories...
So, are you ready to climb aboard the Le Son de la Terre barge? See you in May to enjoy the terrace, then in June to discover the rest of this new cultural and festive spot celebrating jazz and world music in Paris!
