It’s been thirty years (!) since the Martha Graham Dance Company didn’t tread on the Paris Opera stage. An absence that dance connoisseurs will soon forget by the end of the summer 2018: 6 dates: from September 3 to 8 for a 2-hour show including 5 legendary works from the company’s repertoire.
Under the sublime rotunda of the Palais Garnier designed by Marc Chagall, dancers will perform five short ballets: Appalachian spring, and The Rite of Spring performed for the first time at Paris Opera, a re-reading of cult solo Lamentation as well as Cave of the Heart and Ekstasis showing the influences Greek theater on choreographer Martha Graham’s work.
What a program!
Moving on to the music direction, it’s entrusted with Christopher Rountree. In other words, the show sounds extremely promising. Paris Opera offers us here a very beautiful occasion to (re)discover the creations of a legendary dancer who laid the foundation of the American modern dance and who shook up the history of dance.
How could we resist? Dance lovers, save the date!
