Olé! From January 30 to February 11, 2024, the Théâtre national de la danse de Chaillot (16th arrondissement) goes Spanish for the new Biennale d'art flamenco. An opportunity to discover a piece of this sunny, festive culture in Paris, with the greatest bailarines and cantantes of the moment.
For this sixth edition, the Biennale is bringing in the biggest names in flamenco, artists with a precise, recognizable style, who all have one thing in common: they trained with the great masters of the discipline, before appropriating the codes of the dance to break them down one by one and live it to the full in their shows. Somewhere between dance and performance, get ready to travel, dream, love, cry and discover the stories these performers will tell you over the course of a performance. David Coria, Olga Pericet, Rocio Molina and Andrés Marin bring you closer to flamenco, a popular art form that has been danced for centuries in Spain. Between palmas, taconeos and rumbas, take a one-way ticket to Seville from January 30 to February 11, 2024, from the Théâtre national de la danse, in Chaillot!
Los Bailes Robados (David Coria)
For this new work, David Coria has surrounded himself with an excellent cast: David and Alfredo Lagos on vocals and guitar, Isidora O'Ryan on vocals and cello. As for the dancers, they are Aitana Rousseau (alternating with Paula Comitre), Florencia Oz, Rafael Ramírez, Marta Gálvez and himself, who bring to life this show on the social outlet of dance and song, so often repressed, censored and yet always present.
La Leona (Olga Pericet)
"La Leona" (The Lioness) is both the female animal and a prototype guitar by Antonio De Torres, founding father of the modern classical guitar and god of flamenco. Olga Pericet brings these two lionesses together in a wildly intimate flamenco show, accompanied by five musicians.
Vuelta a Uno - Excerpt from trilogy for guitars (Rocio Molina)
Rocío Molina is an outstanding flamenco dancer. But Rocío Molina is also a total artist who, little by little, has built up an extremely singular body of work. Able to move from laughter to tears, she is accompanied by Yerai Cortes on guitar for this third part of her trilogy, centered on the body and the earthy energy of dance.
Recto y solo (Andrés Marin)
Flamenco virtuoso Andrés Marín is accompanied on guitar by Pedro Barragán. Through dance, he revisits the writings of Vicente Escudero, flamenco critic and performer of the early XXᵉ century: what about queer, feminism, the construction of gender in this discipline often perceived as traditional?
