On Tuesday, January 9, 2024, the Théâtre de la Ville de Corbeil-Essonnes (91) welcomes Jesús Carmona, principal dancer with the Spanish National Ballet, for a high-flying flamenco show by one of Spain's leading dancers in the discipline.
El Salto raises questions about movement in dance: is it gendered? Are certain movements "made for" men or women? Through the filter of flamenco, Jesús Carmona explores the relationship, beliefs and limits we place on masculinity (for both men and women) in our societies. To do so, he takes up the codes of traditional flamenco, becoming one with them, twisting and modernizing them in his dance. A true virtuoso of dance, Carmona and his dancers Rubén Puertas, Borja Cortés, Joan Fenollar, Daniel Arencibia, José Vinas and Juan Bravo take us to the heart of a show that is as thought-provoking as it is dazzling.
Accompanied by director Ferran Carvajal and musicians Juan Requena and Sabio Janiak on guitar, José Valencia on percussion, Manu Masaedo and Juan Requena on vocals, the dancers carry you along in a modern flamenco show, awarded the El Ojo Critico prize in 2019 and the Prix National de Danse in 2020.
A unique, high-level flamenco performance, to be seen at the Corbeil-Essonnes theater, from age 10 this Tuesday, January 9, 2024!
