Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, already performed many times at Comédie-Française, is a comedy-ballet by Molière created in 1670, with music by Lully. The play features Monsieur Jourdain, a wealthy bourgeois whose obsession is to rise to the rank of the nobility. Naïve and vain, he surrounds himself with masters of arms, dance and philosophy to acquire aristocratic manners, but becomes the target of mockery and manipulation.
Through this ridiculous character, Molière humorously criticizes the shortcomings of social climbing and delusions of grandeur. The play, a satirical masterpiece combining lively dialogue, absurd situations and musical interludes, is directed by Valérie Lesort and Christian Hecq and premiered on June 18, 2021 at the Comédie-Française. Critically acclaimed for several years, the famous play is back in 2025! Tickets go on sale on Thursday January 23 from 11am for Cartes 2024-2025 tickets, and on Tuesday January 28 from 11am for all individual and group tickets.
