In early 19th-century Seville, Rosine, a young orphan, is held captive by her guardian, Dr. Bartholo, who wishes to marry her as soon as she turns 18. But the young woman falls in love with a mysterious suitor who is secretly courting her: Count Almaviva. Count Almaviva, determined to save her, enlists the help of Figaro, his cunning and ingenious former valet turned barber. Together, they deploy a series of stratagems to thwart Bartholo's surveillance and free Rosine from his clutches.
