He sculpts the walls of the streets to give relief to his works. A signature that made the fame of street artist Alexandre Farto, aka VHILS. His art is the subject of a double exhibition in Paris, at Galerie Danysz and atCentquatre from May 19 to July 27, 2018. The occasion to understand the Portuguese artist’s thought who swapped spray-paint cans for construction tools to sculpt city walls all over the world.
At Centquatre, the impressive 2,600-sqm exhibition invites us to think about the very notion of the city and our relationship to street environment. “VHILS seeks to explore the permanent tension that exists between individuals and city. In that way, the Centquatre exhibition presents works and installations that reflect the particularities of our street landscape”, the press release says about the project.
Within this exhibition about manual and technical know-how, the artist brings face to face works entirely made by hand and creations conceived thanks to machines or to new technologies.
Among the unique works created for the exhibition, Centquatre will present a monumental installation of “debris”, a wall a light and even a 6-m high creation made out of wooden doors.
Galerie Danysz isn’t left out and will even offer to discover a whole range of this 1987-born prolific street-artist who grew up near Lisbon.
