Persona Grata, the exhibition-event at the Musée de l'histoire de l'immigration

ThePersona Grata exhibition is going to be a great event! Organized jointly by the Musée de l'histoire de l'Immigration and the MAC/VAL, the Persona Grataexhibition is a manifesto of today's artists, who have joined forces to denounce the rejection of the Other. For philosophers Fabienne Brugère and Guillaume Le Blanc, author of the book La fin de l'hospitalité (The End of Hospitality), the rejection of the homeless and the undocumented by a section of the population and politicians is tantamount to the end of hospitality.

While the press is seizing on the subject, artists have taken up the theme of hospitality and solidarity in recent years, and are proclaiming Persona Grata!

These are just some of the testimonies we have gathered to help us understand these issues, without being moralistic. It's more a question of observations or emotions about withdrawal, rejection or other revolts, but also of proposals on living together, caring for others, and the kindness we owe each other.

At the Musée de l'histoire de l'Immigration, a museum with a rather violent history since it was built for the 1931 colonial exhibition, we find works by Bertille Bak, Dominique Blais, Alina Bliumis, Jeff Bliumis, Halida Boughriet, Kyungwoo Chun, Philippe Cognée, Pascale Consigny, Hamid Debarrah, Latifa Echakhch, Eléonore False, Claire Fontaine, Laura Henno, Pierre Huyghe, Bertrand Lamarche, Xie Lei, Lahouari Mohammed Bakir, Moataz Nasr, Eva Nielsen, Gina Pane, Laure Prouvost, Enrique Ramirez, Judit Reigl, Anri Sala, Zineb Sedira, Bruno Serralongue, Chiharu Shiota, Société Réaliste, Dan Stockholm, Barthélémy Toguo, Sarkis...

These artists wished to send a message of support and tolerance. As the space wasn't big enough, the MAC/VAL, a Vitry-based institution offering residencies to artists, will also be presenting the work of dozens of artists at the same time!

Of note, a Welcome! festival will take place from October 6 to November 11, 2018 at the Musée de l'Histoire de l'Immigration, with concerts, plays and stand-up.
