Earth objectives: the satellite revolution

Objectif Terre : la révolution des satellites (Earth Targets: The Satellite Revolution) becomes a permanent exhibition at the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie on June 16, 2009. Come and plunge into the heart of space applications, and discover space and the Earth as you've never seen them before!

This exhibition comes at just the right time, as 2009 is the International Year ofAstronomy. Satellites and other space stations have finally found their place at the heart of an exhibition rich in technical progress.

You'll discover the Earth as you've never seen it before, and get a new view of our planet from space.

The exhibition is divided into two parts, with two different spaces.

  • Looking down on Earth: space, our planet's helper.

This first part of the exhibition will show you some very beautiful images of the Earth as seen from satellites, and will demonstrate just how far technological advances in information transmission have come. More than 900 satellites orbit the Earth, helping us to anticipate disasters, understand the climate and find our way around. This exhibition will enable everyone to make the link between our technologies and those we can't see!

  • En route to Space: accessing space through a succession of steps, big and small.

This final part will give you the chance - virtually, of course - to experience the joys of docking a European vehicle to the International Space Station. You'll also be invited to reflect on man's presence in space, including exploration of the Moon and Mars.

OBJECTIFS TERRE: the satellite revolution was produced in partnership with sponsor EADS Astrium, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Centre national d'études spatiales (CNES).
