Pablo Picasso and Auguste Rodin: two artists, two great names in the art world. The Musée Rodin and the Musée National Picasso joined forces to present the exhibition Picasso - Rodin, one exhibition, two venues. This double event took place at the same time in both museums, from May 19, 2021 to January 2, 2022. It should be noted, however, that the Picasso museum is extending its exhibition until March 6, even though the Rodin museum's event has already ended.
A summit meeting is in store in the galleries of the Musée Rodin. Picasso and Rodin confront and respond to each other through their works. In this mix of paintings and sculptures, we discover an unexpected dialogue, a resonance and an unexpected closeness.
The two exhibitions complement each other, each focusing on a different aspect of the two men's art. At the Musée Rodin, we discover the plastic solutions invented by the two artists to represent reality, their experiments, successes and improvements. At the Musée Picasso, the tour focuses on the private sphere of creation in the studio laboratory. Visitors also follow in Picasso's footsteps as he discovered the "Rodin" retrospective at the Pavillon de l'Alma in 1900.
Discovering these (very) many works and seeing the similarities between the two artists as you stroll along is an astonishing experience. And it's easy to imagine a dialogue, a story that links drawings and sculptures, paintings and figurines.
This double-exhibition highlights the richness of the artistic processes, the genius of both artists and their similarities, even if their works remain unique. One question remains, however: which museum will you start this unique experience in?
