Internationally acclaimed and admired, Olga de Amaral has left her mark on contemporary art with her bold style. The Colombian artist is the focus of an unprecedented retrospective, organized at the Fondation Cartier from October 12, 2024 to March 16, 2025.
In this eponymous exhibition, Olga de Amaral takes us into her unique textile world, with monumental creations that escape traditional artistic codes. These abstract works can be paintings, sculptures or installations... They borrow from the world of architecture and textiles to create unique and fascinating pieces.
Olga de Amaral experiments with different textiles (linen, cotton, horsehair, gesso, gold leaf or palladium) to assemble threads and give life to monumental installations. Depending on her desires and explorations, she changes the colors, techniques and sizes of her works. Visitors find themselves drawn into these organic, shimmering creations, which seem almost alive.
The Fondation Cartier exhibition brings together some 90 works dating from the 1960s to the present day, many of which have never been exhibited outside Colombia.
To further enhance the artist's work, a special scenography was designed by architect Lina Ghotmeh. To convey the full power of these works, the architect played on contrasts of color and size, creating a disturbing, sensory journey.
Come and discover this unique artist, unjustly ignored in Europe, thanks to this monumental exhibition at the Fondation Cartier!
