The work will be necessary to accommodate the nearly 3 million annual visitors, since the museum is only built to welcome half that number, which is why Orsay will be getting a facelift. Between 2025 and 2027, the museum will embark on a major redevelopment project costing over 50 million euros. However, no closures are planned during this period, assures Christophe Leribault, the museum's president, in a press release. So you can continue to discover the work of the Impressionists and the many exhibitions on show.
As part of the works, the entrance will be renovated and enlarged to reduce queues. A new exit will also be built to relieve congestion at the exits. The space dedicated to temporary exhibitions will also be enlarged by almost 300 m².
In short, a completely new Musée d'Orsay will open in 2027, and visitors won't even have to miss out on one of Paris's most popular cultural establishments. It remains to be seen how the work will affect visitors.
