During the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Château de Versailles will be transformed into a sports venue: the palace will host the equestrian, para-equestrian and modern pentathlon events. To mark the occasion, and to honor the very special world of horses, the Château is also organizing a major horse exhibition from July 2 to November 3, 2024.
The Château de Versailles is offering three exceptional evening events, on August 20, September 17 and October 15, 2024, so you can enjoy the exhibition in a special evening setting.
A means of locomotion, a symbol of power, speed and strength, a sporting beast, a hunting companion, an animal used on farms, in towns, in the army... Horses have been an important part of our society for many, many centuries.
And this importance is particularly evident at the Château de Versailles: large and small stables, carriage galleries, sculptures and paintings are all reminders that mastery ofhorsemanship was an indispensable skill for all members of the Court, and especially the King. Indeed, tradition held that good horsemanship reflected a monarch's ability to lead his nation.
The exhibition Cheval en majesté, au cœur d'une civilisation brings together over 400 diverse works, most of which have never been shown in France. These historical and artistic pieces tell the story of the place given to the horse in Western cultures, from the 16th to the 20th century.
Culture, art, politics, the military world, science, legends and beliefs, education: the relationship between man and horse is explored in all its aspects. This exhibition-event takes place in several rooms of the château, including some emblematic areas that can be (re)discovered at your leisure.
Whether you're a real knight or not, don't miss this exceptional exhibition at the Château de Versailles!
