Painting, sculpture, film, literature, fashion, theater: it doesn't matter what the medium, as long as the beauty, the idea, the talent is there. Artists draw inspiration from each other, creating unexpected and powerful dialogues between works. For proof of this, all you have to do is visit the Centre Pompidou: the Beaubourg museum is offering us a fascinating, ephemeral artistic journey, to be discovered from January 24 to April 22, 2024.
The exhibition, entitled La traversée des apparences, quand la mode s'invite au national d'art moderne, brings together 17 models, 17 fashion creations by leading designers, and places them face-to-face with modern and contemporary works from the Centre Pompidou's collections.
Christian Dior, Chanel, Iris van Herpen, Azzedine Alaïa, Thebe Magugu, Jean-Paul Gaultier and many others enchant us with their exceptional silhouettes. Lines, colors, movements, materials, accessories, trompe-l'œil: each fashion creation bears witness to the artist's talent, conveying a message, a cause, highlighting the body and the intimate...
Just like the modern works that complete the exhibition. In this dialogue staged by the museum, we discover many points in common, shared themes, a passion, forms used as much by the designers as by the artists. Collaborations between the two are not uncommon: Picasso, Brancusi, Raoul Dufy and Andy Warhol, to name but a few, have worked hand in hand with renowned stylists.
Fashion and art meet and mingle in this unique exhibition at the Centre Pompidou. A must-see if you love fashion, modern and contemporary art... or both! Or both!
