The Bourse de Commerce is proud of its extensive collections and the masterpieces it houses... For our greatest pleasure. The sublimecontemporary art center unveils a monumental exhibition showcasing numerous works, dating from the 1980s to the present day, and all from the Pinault collection.
The exhibition, entitled"Le monde comme il va" ("The world as it is"), takes place on every level of the Bourse de Commerce, and takes us on an exciting, committed and passionate artistic journey that awakens our consciences. From March 20 to September 2, 2024, don't miss this exhibition celebrating contemporary art in all its forms.
The exhibition at the Bourse de Commerce presents artists as observers of our times, witnesses to the present, who display their reflections on the state of the world. From Jeff Koons to Damien Hirst, via Cindy Sherman, Maurizio Cattelan, Anne Imhof, Bertrand Lavier, Pol Taburet, Elaine Sturtevant and many others, the great masters of contemporary art and young talents meet and confront each other in this multi-themed tour.
This selection of works recounts the big and small moments of recent decades, society's foibles and excesses, conflicts and moments of peace, artists' hopes and disappointments... Paradoxes abound, reflecting the complexity and beauty of the world. With irony, humor, gravity, tenderness, philosophy and, above all, talent, these creators cast their sharp eyes on the world.
For example, Jeff Koons' mythical"Balloon dog (magenta)", considered one of the most emblematic works in the artist's " Celebration " series, is exhibited alongside other works by General Idea, an artist collective made up of three Canadians (Felix Partz, Jorge Zontal and AA Bronson).
Not far away, still lifes and a punching bag byAnne Imhof, followed by work by Peter Doig, Marlene Dumas, Martin Kippenberger and the unclassifiable Frank Walter, all question human figuration.
A little further on, Elaine Sturtevant's monumental installation"Duchamp 1200 Coal Bags". This is an approximate reproduction of the installation staged by artist Marcel Duchamp at the 1938 Exposition Internationale du Surréalisme in Paris.
Leaving the second level of the Bourse de Commerce, we make our way down to the first floor to discover the astonishing old men by Sun Yuan and Peng Yu, whose automated wheelchairs clatter limply against each other.
The course of the exhibition, a dialogue between the works, reveals a clash of generations, a pertinent face-off that says as much about the evolution of society as it does about that of art.
To enhance this rich exhibition, we can also admire Kimsooja's carte blanche. For the occasion, the South Korean artist takes possession of the museum's Rotonde, with her installation"To Breathe - Constellation". Here, the artist has chosen to cover the floor of the Rotonde with mirrors, revealing an inversion of the world and altering our perception of space and our awareness of body gravitation.
Forcontemporary art lovers, this is an exhibition not to be missed! Come to the Bourse de Commerce for this major artistic event.
