Throughout the year, the Canadian Cultural Centre invites you to cross the Atlantic and discover Canada's rich and beautiful culture through a series of exhibitions, concerts and screenings.
With theOlympic and Paralympic Games in full swing, the Canadian Cultural Centre is unveiling an exhibition combining art and sport this spring and summer. Entitled " Composition for an Ensemble, or The Spirit of the Games ", the installation is by Clive Holden. A digital artist and filmmaker from Vancouver Island on Canada's west coast, Clive Holden is interested in the representation of celebrity and fame in sport, as seen through the eyes of his fellow photographers and filmmakers.
The exhibition, accessible free of charge until September 8, 2024, opens in the basement of the Canadian Cultural Centre. It features an impressive dytic suspended from the ceiling, onto which photographs of Canadian athletes are projected. Like a music composer, Clive Holden stages a loop of these images, in some of which we discover the incredible gestures of the athletes. The Canadian artist mixes and transforms them to create a rhythmic composition of silent musical chords. All these archive photos, taken during past Olympic and Paralympic Games between 1962 and 2001, have been carefully selected by Clive Holden.
Clive Holden 's digital, video and photographic installation, " UNSUNG ", a new commission, offers an innovative and original experience that resonates with the spirit of athletics and the Games.
Upstairs, the Canadian Cultural Centre unveils a heroic mosaic featuring shots of Canadian athletes at previous Olympic and Paralympic Games. There are also sublime portraits of disabled athletes, and a series of digital works providing a better understanding of Clive Holden's work.
This exhibition, part of the Paris 2024Cultural Olympiad program, can be seen at the Canadian Cultural Centre until September 8, 2024. As always, admission is free.
The venue also offers a special program for Nuit Blanche.
