For the 18th edition of the Journées européennes des métiers d'art, the Musée du Louvre is opening its doors to visitors free of charge, to discover the many craftsmen and craftswomen who bring the museum to life. To be experienced on April 6 and 7, 2024.

Each year, a very special event gives us the opportunity to discover the métiers d'art, those artisanal professions that require traditional, highly specialized know-how and skills. This event takes place from April 2 to 7, 2024: the Journées européennes des métiers d'art opens the doors of numerous art venues and workshops, enabling us to get to know these masters of watchmaking, jewelry, ceramics, leatherwork, gardening, carpentry... It's easy to see why these very special events are so full of discoveries!

These Journées des métiers d'art (or JEMA) give us free access to over 500 events in Paris and the Île-de-France region. And one of them is a rendez-vous with the craftspeople at the Musée du Louvre!

On the weekend of April 6 and 7, 2024, Paris' most famous museum invites you to meet its craftspeople. A series of workshops and a guided tour will enable us to find out more about the little hands who contribute to the museum's renown, and to the preservation of the treasures it houses. Please note that reservations are required.

Here's the program for this new edition of JEMA at the Musée du Louvre:

  • Visit the art workshops
Enjoy a guided tour and meet the Louvre's artisans. 12 workshops to discover: framing, gilding, painting-decoration, marblework, metalwork, cabinetmaking, upholstery, lighting, mounting of objets d'art, mounting of drawings, installation of works of art, museographic supports.
Saturday April 6 and Sunday April 7, at 9.30 am and 2.10 pm (duration: 3h).
Reservations required (please note: ticket valid for workshop visit only, no access to museum collections with this ticket).
Access via the Porte de l'Oratoire staff entrance, opposite 166 rue de Rivoli.

  • Stroll through the Tuileries accompanied by the art gardeners
Come and stroll alongside the art gardeners, who will tell you all about the evolution of their profession. Guarantors of the conservation of a prestigious garden in the heart of the capital, the Tuileries gardeners apply ancestral skills inherited from the royal gardeners: architectural pruning of plants, conservation of a collection of orange trees, while preserving natural environments and adapting to climate change. Enthralling for all garden enthusiasts, lovers of biodiversity and history.
    Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7, at 10.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. (duration: 1h30).
Reservations required (please note: ticket valid for workshop visit only, no access to museum collections with this ticket).
Access via the Lemonnier entrance to the Tuileries Gardens.

Many other exceptional events are being organized in Paris, so make the most of this opportunity to discover exciting trades!
