The Bibliothèque de la Sorbonne is a popular library for students. And if, with any luck, you're still a student yourself, then don't hesitate for a second and discover this beautiful library.
Until 1793, this Parisian library, then known as the Bibliothèque de l'Université de Paris, was housed in the Collège Louis-le-Grand. Subsequently, its works were sent to a literary depository, theEglise Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis, as the college closed. In 1802, the lycées were created and the library reopened under the name Bibliothèque des Lycées de Paris, then Bibliothèque de l'Université de France.
In 1823, the Bibliothèque de l'Université de France moved to its current location at the Sorbonne. From the middle to the end of the 19th century, several consecutive directors took charge of greatly improving the library. It acquired five sections divided into five thematic rooms (Letters, Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, Law), its collections were organized and new works were acquired.
Between 1885 and 1901, the library was rebuilt, and almost one hundred years later, in 1972, it received its current name: Bibliothèque de la Sorbonne. Students have access to two wonderfully decorated reading rooms: ceilings and walls decorated with flowers, moldings, paintings, wood panelling... The perfect place to study in complete serenity.
