Superheroes have packed their bags at Disneyland Paris! The Parisian theme park invites you to discover Avengers Campus, its zone dedicated to Marvel superheroes, and has been waiting for you since July 20, 2022 to fill up on sensations. On the program: two attractions, three restaurants, two food trucks, a Meet & Greet and a boutique. Enough to keep fans ofIron Man, Black Widow, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, Thor and Loki busy.
What can we expect? According to Disneyland Paris, at the time the expansion plan was announced, this new space would plunge visitors"into the heart of the action and epic adventures of their favorite superheroes, from the mystical arts of Doctor Strange to the dizzying feats of Spider-Man". Children and parents will also be able to"discover the latest experiments created by Pym Technology with Ant-Man and the Wasp" and then"team up with Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Captain America and many more".
The editors were able to visit the area and discover the attractions and food on offer. We tell you all about it (well, we don't tell you everything either, we'll leave you with some surprises...)!
In this high-speed roller coaster, climb aboard a vehicle specially designed by Tony Stark and take to the skies alongsideIron Man and Captain Marvel in a breathtaking space adventure... full of loops! Become a recruit of the Avengers and fight alongside your favorite heroes after being briefed by the billionaire in armor, through new, highly polished preshows. An attraction that replaces the Rock'n'Roller Coaster without changing the ride route (only the building and preshows change), which we were able to test... Verdict: we loved it! Minimum height required: 1m20. More info on the link above.
Join the Worldwide Engineering Brigade and, equipped with 3D glasses, fight a horde of Spider-Bots alongside Spider-Man in this innovative attraction, throwing webs at them with your hands. This attraction replacesArmaggedon: Les Effets Spéciaux, which was completely destroyed to make way for the Avengers. A very pleasant attraction, quite sporty, but ideal for children! There are no minimum height requirements for this attraction. More info on the link above.
Ant-Man and The Wasp await you in this Pym Tech laboratory, where experiments take place on your food as it grows or shrinks. A playful menu and many winks make this restaurant an innovative culinary experience! We even got to try it out, and particularly appreciated the freshness of the dishes and the playfulness of the ingredients, both large and small. A special mention for the drinks served in chemistry glassware! More info on the link above.
Taking the place of the Blockbuster Café, the Stark Factory offers a hot new food offering, with a quick-service restaurant dedicated to the billionaire in armor. The menu features homemade pizzas, salads and a selection of fresh pasta dishes. And when it comes to decor, note that Tony Stark has a taste for workshops and invites you to discover his latest creations, including the famous Hulkbuster, several meters high. More info on the link above.
This American diner, formerly Café des Cascadeurs, is back with Reuben sandwiches, a traditional recipe of corned beef, cheese, sauerkraut and gravy, served between two slices of rye bread. A must-try for all street food lovers! Since August 2023, the house also offers shawarma (a nod to the post-generic scene fromAvengers, released in 2012).
There are also several food trucks: WEB - Worldwide Eating Brigade, offering a selection of Asian noodles to take away, and the FAN-tastic Food Truck, offering three types of hot dogs, including one vegan, as well as cheesecake sticks.
And what about the other events?
Ever wanted to meet Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel and all the others? Come and meet us in a brand-new building, in place of the Motor garage , Action! : Stuntshow Spectacular. Also on the program, a dynamic animated sequence created by Disney PhotoPass, using 27 cameras, allowing you to keep an epic souvenir of interactions with Captain Marvel or Iron Man. Reservations required via the Disneyland Paris mobile app.
This new boutique, located at the exit of the Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure attraction, offers a whole host of Marvel products, including WEB Power Bands, Spider-Man, Iron Man and Doctor Strange coloured web launchers, which you can use in the attraction dedicated to Peter Parker. Also available are the attraction's famous Spider-Bots, which you can customize in the colors of your favorite superheroes.
All day long, there were endless shows in the main aisle and on the buildings!
And on the subject of shows, Disneyland Paris announced at a press conference on April 12, 2024 that a new show would be launched, headlined by Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange! You can also meet your favorite superheroes, take photos with them and join in their battles, with a Dora Milaje dance demonstration, a Guardians of the Galaxy dance show, a fight between Black Widow and Taskmaster on the roof of the Spider-Man attraction, Spider-Man 's exploits on the same roof, and many more surprises!
And we also enjoyed discovering the campus by night, with a special atmosphere that should please many of you! For the press inauguration, we were treated to an exceptional drone show with Doctor Strange, as well as fireworks and a DJ set by The Avener, after Disneyland Paris President Natasha Rafalski, former Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek, actress Brie Larson(who plays Captain Marvel on the big screen) and all the superheroes had come to kick off the festivities.
This new themed zone was already revealed on May 12, in a promotional spot which also unveiled the attraction to replace the now-defunct Rock'n'Roller Coaster: Avengers Assemble: Flight Force.
A grand announcement!
This Marvel zone came as a big surprise, even though many things foreshadowed a redesign of the space... Starting with the announcement with great fanfare that Bob Chapek, then head of Disney's Parks & Resort division, had teased to over 2,000 shareholders, through the redesign of the Rock'n'Roller Coaster, long before the announcement of the Walt Disney Studios expansion plan, presented by Bob Iger to Emmanuel Macron, in February 2018.
We had to wait until December of the same year to learn more about this area:
In summer 2019, Disneyland Paris also gave a first glimpse of its future land dedicated to the superheroes of the Marvel stable, revealing a few details about the future attractions and shows that the area dedicated to Walt Disney Studios will offer. The announcement was made by Scot Drake, executive creator of the Marvel portfolio worldwide, and then relayed on Twitter by the Parisian resort. And at the D23 Expo, held in Anaheim, California, from August 23 to 25, 2019, we now know the name.
A construction site that was gradually taking shape
As for the construction site, only a photo of the work in progress was revealed in November 2021, showing workers hard at work on the upcoming Iron Man and Spider-Man attractions. Back in April 2021, Disneyland Paris provided news of the work in progress, which was progressing rather well, as Beth Clapperton, Artistic Director at Walt Disney Imagineering, explained on the occasion of the resort's 29th anniversary on April 12, 2021.
A space that will host two attractions, among others:"It's a 360-degree experience where we'll find a new attraction dedicated to Spider-Man, a makeover of the attraction that used to be at the back of the zone, Rock'n'Roller Coaster with Aerosmith, which will become a hyper frenetic attraction with Iron Man, and then of course we have restaurants, stores, so a real small town, a real campus", he indicated. She continued:"We're going to bring back a lot of greenery. It was a lot more mineral and now we'd like to have a bit more greenery". And the soundscape will be particularly important to the immersion experience.
A new area that already gave news in November 2020, with a photo showing part of the work on the late Rock'n'Roller Coaster, as well as the Training Center building (previously known as"Mission Control"), which is to host a "Meet & Greet" (meeting with the characters) within which families will be able to have their photo taken with many superheroes from the Marvel stable.
What did these photos show? That the facade of the future Iron Man attraction was taking shape, with the concrete bases for the attraction's future circular façade being laid. On the Meet & Greet side, the building appeared to be finished from the outside, with the exception of its façade, but was still awaiting the platform where the Avengers Quinjet would be displayed for all to see. A landing that has indeed taken place!
A project that has kept fans on the edge of their seats for two and a half years. And a zone that is now open... Shall we go, folks?
