Surrounded by an exceptional setting, aka a terrace with panoramic views onto the heart of the Left Bank, Bien élevées team offers us to break the secret of urban growing of crocus sativus, this incredible spice that comes from the pistil of a flower!
The urban agriculture house has been devoting itself to the chemical free saffron growing on the Paris rooftops since August 2018. Bien élevées currently owns 4 saffron plants on the rooftops of the Arab World Institute, on the roof of a Monoprix store in the Butte-aux-Cailles, on the Guillaume Tirel hotel school and in Montrouge.
After a presentation, we’ll harvest the flowers of the day: a feast of colors and scents. Then, around a table and over a cup of saffron tea, equipped with our little gold scissors, we learn the delicate gesture of pruning the red pistils that will continue their journey to join foodies’ and masterchefs’ tables in Paris.
We leave with a small and tasty saffron gift.
You don’t need any particular skills and the material you need will be supplied. Because it is a rooftop, high heels are recommended. A moment filled with poetry and nature in the heart of the city!
