Paris City Hall has been fighting for some time to get the capital's parks and gardens reopened. Since June 2, this has been the case, much to the delight of many Parisians in need of greenery after several weeks of confinement. While the capital's inhabitants were delighted to rediscover the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, the Parc Monceau and the Jardin des Tuileries, some were delighted to discover the Jardin des Arts - Albert Schweitzer.
Located right in the heart of the capital, this garden is not yet very well known to Parisians. This new green space opened on March 14 and closed on March 17, due to the health crisis. Now that Paris is a green zone, the Jardin des Arts - Albert Schweitzer is welcoming its first visitors, who are full of praise for this new haven of peace.

For his part, the mayor of the 4th arrondissement, Ariel Weil (PS), happily presents it as " the largest garden created in the heart of Paris in decades " in the columns of Le Parisien. He goes even further, referring to it as " a triptych " in that, now redeveloped and enlarged, it brings together the Square Albert Schweitzer, the Cité des Arts garden and the French garden of the Paris Administrative Court (Hôtel d'Aumont) in its upper section.
"The first thing we did was to open up the play area by knocking down the railings and adding two table soccer tables. Next, we succeeded in planting a lawn on the esplanade, which is in fact a parking lot roof [...] Finally, a long period of work with the legal services of the Conseil d'Etat enabled us to reopen the garden of the Hôtel d'Aumont ," Ariel Weil told the daily newspaper.
A total of 5,000m² of green space is now accessible to Parisians on the banks of the Seine, right in the heart of the capital, with its lawns adorned with flowers, shrubs and flowerbeds. The garden also features several tree-lined walkways and a play area.
The Jardin des Arts - Albert Schweitzer pays tribute to Albert Schweitzer, missionary physician, philosopher, musician and musicologist, and Bach specialist. In 1952, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
