With the first rays of sunshine, Parisians for a day and for ever are quick to take to the capital's parks and gardens. Some, like the Tuileries, the Luco, or the Palais-Royal Gardens, attract tourists with their iconic setting. Others, like the Buttes-Chaumont and Belleville parks , are the Parisian strongholds of the summer season. And yet, even for locals, it's hard to really know the City of Light like the back of your hand. So, unsurprisingly, there are other green spaces that Parisians know little about.
In the 19th arrondissement, not far from the famous Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, there's another, more secret green space where life is good. Parc de la Butte-du-Chapeau-Rouge is a little-known garden on the border between the capital and the outlying town of Pré-Saint-Gervais.
Covering 4.7 hectares, the park has a long history: it was inaugurated in 1939 and features a neoclassical style designed by architect Léon Azéma. Here, you'll find a hillside with an unobstructed view of the Paris suburbs and beautiful stretches of grass where you can relax for a picnic or an aperitif with friends. For the kids, we love the park'splayground, withswings, slides and a play area to let off steam! We recommend you discover the Butte du Chapeau Rouge park by strolling along its paths or along its large lawns, one of which, with its exotic plants and exotic path, is particularly immersive.
As soon as you enter the main entrance, you'll discover a monumental fountain featuring Eve, a statue by sculptor Raymond Couvègnes. This is not the only sculpture to be admired here: two other works await walkers: l'Enfance de Bacchus by Pierre Traverse, and the monument to the victims of North Africa by artist Eugène Dodeigne. How about exploring the Butte du Chapeau Rouge park this weekend?
