While the Paris region has many beautiful naturewalks, it would be better to work on greening the area even more, given the predictions of climate disruption in the coming years, which are likely to see the capital grow warmer. Since 1990, the Institut Paris Région has been working to bring nature back to eastern Paris, with a 50-kilometre trail linking the capital with the towns of Montreuil, Bagnolet, Les Lilas, Fontenay-sous-Bois and Rosny-sous-Bois. All the ingredients for cool, pleasant strolls between now and 2030!
On February1, 2024, Les Lilas launched work on the Grand Chemin, a project previously known as the "Promenade des hauteurs". This 55-kilometre green loop will link the Buttes-Chaumont and Montreau parks in Montreuil and the Corniche des Forts leisure island in Romainville. The first 10-kilometre section is due to be completed within the next two and a half years, before the rest of the project, which has yet to be fully financed, can be considered.
Many local residents have already discovered the project through sporting events such as La Grande Rando and the Trail des Hauteurs !
