Recent construction work on the future school complex in Sartrouville, Yvelines (78), was temporarily interrupted by a major archaeological discovery: 17th-century remains were unearthed during compulsory preventive excavations. Planned for the Vieux-Pays and de l'Union districts, this large-scale project includes the creation of two schools and a leisure center, built according to a low-energy building model, using sustainable insulating materials and covered with a green roof.
Excavations, carried out by theInstitut National de Recherches Archéologiques Préventives (Inrap), revealed a valuable artisanal complex linked to milling activities dating back to the 17th century. Notable finds include the stone base of a mill and the foundations of a miller's house.
To give the public the chance to discover these historic finds, exceptional free tours of the site are being organized on Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 2pm to 5pm, at 106 rue Voltaire. Visitors will have the opportunity to sign up on site for a 45-minute cultural walk, guided by Inrap archaeologists. For safety reasons, we recommend wearing hiking boots or good sneakers.
