In Issy-les-Moulineaux, just outside Paris, there's a lovely concept behind Rosechou, a space designed to support young moms and dads during their maternity and paternity leave.
This family center was the brainchild ofÉlodie, a woman from Issé who was looking for a similar initiative when she had her first and then her second child. "I was lucky to have healthy children, but I needed to share with other moms, to find a place to settle down with my newborn," she says, explaining why Rosechou was conceived in this way.
Legend has it that little girls are born in roses and little boys in cabbages, as if by magic. Rosechou takes its name from this lovely legend, which has been told since the dawn of time, but the reality is far from the polished stories of perfect maternity. "It's not the school for the perfect mother, it's a place for exchange and support," explains Élodie.
And that's what she wants to emphasize with this space where parents come to take a breather, enjoy a hot coffee and leave their baby in a deckchair to drink it. No matter if your baby is crying, you're exhausted or even if you've got a coffee craving, there's no judgement: Rosechou is also the place to vent and release all the pressure that parenthood brings. By the way, if you're still hesitating about taking the plunge with your baby, you can join the Café des Mamans, every Tuesday at 3pm: it's free, and there's a good chance it'll do you a lot of good!
So, as soon as you step through the door, you'll enjoy thecosy, super-warmatmosphere and 5-star welcome from Élodie, who serves you by the minute, and is always available to talk about baby problems or joke with the regulars. What's more, she's been weaving a beautiful story with them since opening the place just over two years ago: "What's magical is that my customers come back pregnant with their second child or once they've given birth, whereas at the very beginning, they came to Rosechou for their first", she confides.
Here, you can take advantage of workshops to learn baby massage, baby first aid or even participate with them in more creative activities, such as baby yoga, sensory stimulation up to two years of age... The instructors are qualified professionals, like Manon, who patiently teaches you how to massage your baby with scented oil, for a wonderful moment of complicity with your newborn.
The site is committed to supporting new parents, and offers a wide range of workshops to help them learn more about toddler sleep and physiological babywearing... These are essential introductions to understanding and growing with your baby, with a whole team of professionals on hand, including midwives, nursery nurses, psychologists... To prepare you for maternity/paternity, or to support those in the midst of it.
Third places for families in Paris: must-see places to take the kids
It's become the place to be for family time, whatever the age of the children, parents and sometimes even grandparents. In fact, Rosechou isn't just a café- it's a café-boutique, with a baby boutique where you can stock up on all the essentials, before or after your baby arrives. Cosmetics, clothes, bottles, nightlights and other baby accessories are sold on site. Many of the products in the boutique are the creations of local designers, and almost all the brands are French or European.
Élodie's focus on local ingredients is also reflected in her menu, which includes coffee roasted in Issy-les-Moulineaux, pastries made by Julie and Cakes, a pastry chef based in Issy who offers organic cakes, , such as the delicious pear-chocolate cake, Parisian tea, the famous dookies (cookies that are all the rage, offered by a pastry chef in Clamart), savoury dishes made in a laboratory in Boulogne...
On the coffee side, the coffeeshop offers a varied menu, created with fresh produce sourced as far as possible from short supply chains. You'll find the classic coffees and cappuccinos, as well as more comforting drinks such as matcha latte, chai latte, golden latte... And a range of sweet treats including tarts, cookies, cakes and cinnamon rolls for a truly gourmet break! A fine collection of teas, infusions and fruit juices are also on the menu. At lunchtime, you can opt for a savory dish at €12.50, beautifully served by Élodie. On the menu: truly generous portions, but above all, quality ingredients, prepared in a superbly balanced dish. Vegetarian options are on the menu every week, but there are still plenty of good values to choose from, such as the excellent salmon steak with sour cream and cranberry boughour, or the chicken penne with fresh basil sauce. Ideal for an on-the-go, high-quality and particularly nutritious lunch!
Whether you're a dad, a mom or a parent-to-be, we can't recommend you miss out on a visit - you won't be disappointed!
