In the 5th arrondissement of Paris, not far from the Panthéon, which overlooks the district, the Luxembourg Gardens are a must-see green space. Covering more than 25 hectares, it is made up of French and English gardens and was acquired in 1614 by Marie de Médicis, then regent of France on behalf of her son, King Louis XIII. A fountain is named in her memory: the prestigious Fontaine Médicis, one of the garden's nuggets.
Families come here to admire the beautiful autumn or spring colors in front of the Fontaine Médicis, to relax on the garden's iconic khaki green chairs, or to take advantage of the various free facilities on offer in the garden. Chess tables, a basketball court, a sandpit, a bowling alley and a free treasure hunt let you explore the garden in a fun way and discover all its secrets!
Set off on a treasure hunt
In addition to offering several free routes to discover the Luco - the garden's nickname - from a different angle, the Garden can also be discovered during a free treasure hunt, accessible with a special PDF.
Sailing the little sailboats of Le Jardin
It's the must-do activity for kids visiting the Jardin du Luxembourg: they can sail (and push) beautiful wooden sailboats around the Jardin du Luxembourg basin.

A pony ride
For children, including toddlers (accepted from the age of around 15 months), take a pony ride through the garden, guided by your guides along a route of almost a kilometer. Pony rides are available on Wednesdays and school vacations (zone C only), as well as on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Tickets cost €9.50 per child, with sliding-scale prices if purchased in packs.
Playground fun at its best
Toboggans, swings and other safe climbing areas await children in the garden's playgrounds: the only downside is that the latter is not free. Count on a few euros per child to enjoy it!
Attend a Guignol show
Guignol has been making children laugh for decades: since 1933, the famous puppet from Lyon has even had his own little theater in the Jardin du Luxembourg. With a capacity of up to 275 spectators, you can come and see a performance of Guignol on Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays (as well as during school vacations). Tickets cost €7.3 per person.
Swinging in the air
Like the swings in some other Paris parks, such as Parc Monceau or Jardin des Tuileries, children can climb on large swings (max. 2 children) for a few minutes of fun. You can expect to pay €1 or €2 for ten minutes or so.
Going for another ride
Hop on the garden carousel and let's go for a ride! Prices available on site.
Free activities
Chess tables, a basketball court, a sandpit and a bowling green are available to the public when the garden is open.
