This Thursday December 17, 2020, the French President has tested positive for Covid-19 after passing a RT-PCR test, the Elysée announced. Emmanuel Macron now has to self-isolate for seven days.

The news has just dropped: in a press release, the Elysée confirms French President Emmanuel Macron has been infected with coronavirus.

The French President has tested positive for Covid-19 today. This diagnosis has been made following a RT-PCR test performed after the onset of the first symptoms. In compliance with the health rules applicable to all, the French President will follow a 7-day self-isolation period. He will keep on working and pursue his activities from the distance” the Elysée announces.

Like Franck Riester or Jean Castex before him, Emmanuel Macron will have to self-isolate and work remotely, while taking it easy, to make sure his health does not get worse.

The president’s entourage – probably including several ministers – will have to self-isolate for a few days, in compliance with the health rules set up for contact cases.

We do not know yet how Emmanuel Macron has been contaminated. Yet, for the past few months, the French President has met a lot of people, for inner meetings or during business trips. He is likely to have been infected last week. The president’s schedule being thoroughly kept up to date, it will not be too difficult to find all contact cases and likely contaminators.
