When and how will museums and other cultural places reopen? The executive assures they are working to prepare the soon reopening of movie theaters, theaters and show venues, museums and monuments leading the way. This Wednesday February 10, 2021, interview on France 2 show Télématin, Roselyne Bachelot said she was against instating vaccine passport.
Approved by most French, this vaccine passport is a document stating one has been vaccinated against Covid-19 and is allowed to travel and enjoy places with a high contamination risk. A document disapproved by the Minister of Culture: “I remain against vaccine passport that seems to me to harm one’s liberties. As I am fond of liberties, I cannot wrap my head around it! If we were to come to so, it would be such a withdrawal” the minister says, resentful, to Laurent Bignolas.
No passport to prove one’s credentials at the entrance of cultural places, then. The minister has still given no clues on how the public will reunite with cultural places. No news either on a recovery date for museums: “it’s too soon to set a precise date” Bachelot assures. The reopening can only be considered when “continuous decrease” is noticed in contamination toll “not stabilized yet”.
On the same show, Minister of Culture has also spoken about festivals and their likely return this summer. She also said she was surprised by Perpignan RN mayor Louis Aliot’s behavior when he announced he will reopen four museums in his city, despite governmental guidelines. Bachelot considered this action to go against “compliance with republican principle. It’s very odd a mayor not complying with the Republic’s laws and does not apply rules to himself” she commented.
