This Wednesday June 16, Jean Castex has surprised everyone announcing facemasks will no longer be mandatory outside starting from June 17. "Outdoor facemask-wearing will no longer be compulsory excluding on some conditions (gatherings, crowded places, queues, markets...)", he stated at the end of the Ministerial Council.

When will facemask-wearing no longer be compulsory outdoor? “Starting from July 1st, outdoor facemask-wearing could be lifted in compliance with health guidelines”, Health Director General Jérôme Salomon stated this Monday June 14, 2021 on RTL. If and only if “conditions allow it”. Furthermore “no decision has been made yet as for outdoor facemask-wearing in the coming weeks, which remains the rule,” the professor adds.

The situation has quickly improved. This Wednesday June 16, at the end of the Ministerial Council, Jean Castex and Olivier Véran announced excellent news to the press. "We will lift the general obligation of wearing a mask outside. Outside facemask-wearing will no longer be compulsory excluding on some conditions - when one gathers" in rooms, venues, queues, markets or crowded places, the Prime Minister explained.

Wearing a facemask outside is no longer compulsory from June 17, 2021.

Jean Castex and his government have decided to put an end to this constraint given the encouraging results and the decline of the epidemic noticed over the past weeks. "Prefectorial decrees regulating outdoor facemask-wearing will be modified starting from tomorrow", the head of the government added, specifying that "facemask-wearing remains compulsory in closed places".

Tweet reads: "Starting from tomorrow, outdoor facemask-wearing will no longer be compulsory excluding on some conditions (gatherings, crowded places, queues, markets...)."

The PrimeMinister also announced curfew is to be lifted starting from Sunday June 20.
